NIGEL CABOURN A/W 2011/12

English designer Nigel Cabourn has a passion for vintage clothing, function and essential details. His menswear collections present high-quality reinterpretations of functional workwear based on historic examples, expedition or army clothing. As well as a remake of his legendary Everest Parka, Cabourn is presenting in his collection special collaborations such as bags by Brady Bags and trousers by ARN Mercantile.

Nigel Cabourn lives and works in Newcastle in England, from where he travels to all corners of the globe. On his journeys, in vintage stores and at flea markets he collects clothing and ideas for his collections. Old illustrated books and publications about expeditions, motorsports or military history provide him with design inspiration for his work.

His philosophy as a fashion designer is based on an ambitious, down-to-earth principle. “The design style typical for me is very authentic,” explains Nigel Cabourn. “First and foremost, a jacket should fulfil its purpose. Functional details are central to my work.” He attaches particular importance to the intricate workmanship as well as the use of durable and hard-wearing fabrics, some of which, true to the original, are reissued especially for him. “To commemorate the 100th Harris Tweed we created an exclusive series including a jacket, waistcoat, trousers and a duffle coat made of a particularly thick tweed fabric,” explains Cabourn. The garments, which are produced in small quantities for his label, have become sought-after collector’s items. Cabourn has them produced exclusively in Japan and Great Britain and sometimes works with manufacturing sites that otherwise only produce for the British military.

Rare and well-preserved originals, which he stores in his archive of currently over 2,000 items, fascinate him. Follow the link below to see Nigel Cabourn talking about the inspiration of the new A/W 2011 collection.

HAVERSACK Autumn / Winter

Only a handful of shops in Europe can pride themselves in offering the fantastic designs of the Japanese designer Koji Norihide. For his 1998 founded label he chose the name Haversack as an homage to the once extremely durable linen bread sacs of the US Army.

In terms of fabric texture and tailoring Koji Norihide bases his designs on the French style of the 1930s and 40s during the late Art déco era. Haversack articles such as shirts, waistcoats, blazers and pants are based on old samples, though receiving a modern touch through intelligent details and handcraft. Selected, natural materials provide durability and a long lasting joy of wearing.

LFILSON BAGS - Limited Edition In Navy, Red and Natural

Filson products owe their special charm to a combination of reduced design and calculated material mix. A rugged 22 oz. cotton twill functions as a basis. Through an oil finishing on a paraffin base, the fabric becomes water resistant, and over the years softer, acquiring a beautiful, unique patina. The unusual thickness of the material makes the bags extremely sturdy and resistant.

For this season the American brand Filson launched their large briefcases, duffle and tote bags in the exclusive colour combinations navy, red and natural. Each style is limited to only 30 pieces worldwide and is available

All leather details such as straps, grips, cords and laces are crafted from vegetable tanned cowhide, also used in the production of horse bridles lending it special robustness and longevity.

All products possess a high functionality and are very easy to clean. Dirt marks should be brushed off or removed with water and a damp cloth, if soap is used, the spot must be treated with wax after. In order to preserve the softness of the high quality leather and avoid cracks, the areas can be cleaned with saddle soap and waxed afterwards. Chemical dry cleaning and machine wash are taboo.

The entrepreneur Clinton C. Filson from Seattle in the Northwest of the USA found his salvation and purpose during the Great Gold Rush at Klondike River. Differing from the prospectors, he did not resort to the mines and rivers but supplied the adventurers with heavy-duty clothing and robust luggage. In 1897 he founded the C.C. Filson Company, and up until today his name stands for excellent weather-guard and leisure clothing, and above all for hard-wearing bags.

Next to hunters and outdoor fans by now also businessmen and aficionados of real originals swear by the multifunctional travel luggage, laptop bags, briefcases, shopper, weekender and trolleys. Every product from the house of Filson is committed to functionality and tradition to the smallest detail: all styles are traditionally manufactured by hand in Seattle, and even the signature cotton twill and sturdy leather are made in the USA.

Filson bags from 14 oz. Berlin are also available at the store in three additional colours: "Brown" describes a red shimmering brown nuance, "Dark Tan" a strong sand tone and "Otter Green" a dark hunting green.
